Skin Texture & Firmness Guide
Does patchy makeup mean you need a lifting treatment? Before considering Sofwave, Mason Clinic explains how dryness, surface texture, firmness and volume can represent different concerns.
Hello from Mason Clinic.
“My makeup keeps looking patchy. Does that mean my skin is sagging?”
When your skin feels different, it is easy to start searching for lifting devices. Fine lines in the mirror and rough cheeks can all get grouped under the word ‘firmness’.
But uneven makeup and a changing jawline do not always have the same cause. Dryness, irritation, surface changes, laxity and volume changes can overlap, while still needing different approaches.
Before choosing a treatment name, start with the change that matters most to you. Here are four concerns to separate before a Sofwave consultation.

If your skin feels tight after cleansing or familiar products begin to sting, dryness and irritation should be assessed before choosing a lifting treatment. Mention any recent changes to your cleanser or exfoliating products.
Moisturizing may make some fine lines less noticeable. That does not make dryness-related lines and sagging skin the same problem. Persistent stinging or redness deserves a medical assessment first.
If makeup sits unevenly on your cheeks or the skin around your pores stands out, the surface of the skin needs a closer look. Roughness alone does not identify a single cause.
Dryness, repeated irritation, acne and scars may contribute in different ways. Describe what you feel with your fingers, what you see in photographs and what you most want to change. This helps turn ‘better texture’ into a clearer consultation goal.
If your skin looks looser or changes in your contours stand out in older photographs, a firmness consultation may be relevant. Surface dryness and tissue laxity should be assessed separately.
Sofwave uses ultrasound energy and is one option Mason Clinic may consider when discussing skin laxity and wrinkles. It is not a universal answer to texture or pore concerns. Suitable areas, possible changes and limitations should be discussed after your skin is assessed.
If your cheeks look hollow or facial shadows have changed, volume may need to be considered alongside firmness. Lighting and camera angles can also change how your face looks.
A lifting device should not be expected to produce the same changes as a treatment intended to add volume. Equally, a hollow-looking area does not automatically need filler. The assessment should consider what to change, what to preserve and the appearance you want.

Rather than choosing a device or treatment count first, make a short note of the following.
Active inflammation, persistent redness or stinging, or discomfort remaining after an earlier procedure should be assessed before another treatment. Tell the clinician about pregnancy or breastfeeding, medical conditions and medicines you take.
Even if your skin feels comfortable, ask about potential discomfort, redness, swelling and other risks, as well as aftercare. Responses and recovery vary. Being ready for the next day's plans cannot be guaranteed in advance.
‘My skin looks tired’ can describe several different concerns. Identifying what bothers you most helps clarify which options to consider first.
If you are interested in Sofwave, share the area you want assessed and the changes you have noticed. Start by comparing your current skin condition with your goals, rather than deciding on a procedure immediately.
Only what is needed, in the amount needed. Mason Clinic considers texture, firmness and volume separately to discuss options suited to your concerns.
