Lip Care Guide
Before adding another layer, look at the products touching your lips and the habits you repeat.
“I keep using lip balm, but my lips still sting and flake.” Adding more moisturising products may not be the only step to consider.
Hello from Mason Clinic, near Exit 7 of Sinnonhyeon Station in Seoul. Here is a practical order for reviewing your routine when your lips feel rough or chapped.

Burning or stinging after lip balm should not be taken as a sign that it is working. Stop using the product that causes irritation.
Think back to when the discomfort began and whether you introduced a new lip product. Gather these clues before layering several products.
Saliva may briefly wet the lips, but repeated wetting and drying can irritate them. Avoid licking, biting, pulling off flakes or scrubbing your lips.
Notice when the habit happens, such as during meetings or while concentrating. Focus on reducing irritation rather than removing every visible flake.
A gentle, fragrance-free lip moisturiser or a plain protective ointment such as petroleum jelly may help. Apply with clean hands, and stop if it makes your lips feel worse.
No single ingredient or product suits everyone. If you suspect a prescribed medicine is involved, discuss it with the prescriber instead of stopping it yourself.
Outdoors, consider a lip sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher. Reapply about every two hours and after eating, following its directions. Take note of windy weather and dry indoor air too.
Drinking enough water and addressing dry surroundings can support care, but they do not resolve every lip problem. Notice changes that ordinary dryness alone may not explain.

Seek a medical assessment if care has not helped after two to three weeks, or if cracks keep returning in one area or involve the mouth corners or surrounding skin. Get checked sooner for hot, painful or swollen lips.
Sudden swelling of the lips, mouth, tongue or throat, or difficulty breathing, needs immediate local emergency medical help. Do not wait for a routine clinic appointment.
Note the start date, location and pattern, recent lip products or toothpaste, and current medicines. Unfiltered photos showing changes can also be useful.
Tell Mason Clinic exactly what feels uncomfortable. Rather than choosing a product or procedure in advance, discuss your current condition and the care it may need.
At Mason Clinic, our consultation approach is to consider only what is needed, in the amount needed. Before adding products or procedures, review repeated irritation and your current condition.
If discomfort keeps returning, bring your product list and a record of changes. Advice will depend on the cause and your individual condition.
Before adding another layer, consider what may be making your lips uncomfortable.
