Skin Care Guide
When flakes show through your makeup, scrubbing may seem like the next step. First, notice whether your skin also feels tight, sore or irritated.
Hello from Mason Clinic.
“My skin is flaky. Would a scrub make it smoother?”
It is tempting to pick at a visible patch or add another exfoliating product. Let’s look at what to consider before deciding how to care for it.

A rough or flaky surface alone cannot tell you the cause. It is worth checking for dryness or irritation as well.
Note where the flakes appear, when they started, and whether there is itching or redness. These details explain more than simply saying you have “a lot of dead skin.”
Repeated rubbing with a scrub or brush can add irritation. Do not exfoliate areas that are red, stinging, cracked, wounded or sunburned.
Rather than picking flakes off or rubbing them away with a towel, reduce friction and check how your skin is feeling.
Look beyond your scrub: exfoliants containing AHA or BHA, retinol products and some acne treatments also matter. Layering these products can increase dryness or irritation.
Bring product names, how often you use them and any recent changes to your consultation. Ask the prescribing clinician how to adjust a prescription if irritation occurs; do not stop it or change the amount on your own.
Avoid hot water and vigorous rubbing. Use a gentle cleanser, pat the skin dry and apply moisturizer after washing.
For dry skin, a fragrance-free cream or ointment may help. If a product keeps stinging, check the product and the reaction rather than repeatedly applying more.

An in-clinic peel should not be judged by the same criteria as a home scrub. The method, strength and condition of your skin all need consideration.
Mention recent exfoliation, procedures, medicines and any sore or red areas. A consultation can help you decide whether to proceed or let the skin settle before reassessing.
If flaking or itching continues despite gentle care and moisturizing, have the cause assessed. Appearance alone cannot reliably distinguish simple dryness from dermatitis.
Seek prompt medical advice for oozing, increasing pain, rapid worsening or fever.
At Mason Clinic, we consider everyday discomfort and your current products alongside the flakes you can see.
When contacting Mason Clinic near Exit 7 of Sinnonhyeon Station, tell us where the discomfort is and when it began. You do not need to choose a procedure in advance.
Care matched to your needs, without adding more than necessary. We start with what your skin needs now, rather than how much to remove.
