Skin Care Guide
Your forehead and nose may look shiny while your cheeks feel tight. Before skipping moisturiser, look at how different areas feel and how you cleanse.
Hello from Mason Clinic.
“My face looks oily but feels tight underneath. Should I use less moisturiser?”
Shine can make it tempting to wash more often or remove a step from your routine. Yet visible oil and a feeling of tightness deserve separate attention. Here is a gentle way to review your care.

Different parts of your face can behave differently: your nose and forehead may look shiny while your cheeks feel dry. Visible oil does not establish that every area is comfortable or needs no moisture.
Tightness alone also cannot confirm a particular skin type or cause. Stinging, itching, redness and the products you use all need to be considered.
Does tightness start just after washing? Does shine become noticeable in the afternoon? Does only one product sting? Recording your cheeks separately from your forehead and nose can make a consultation more useful.
Include recent cleanser or cosmetic changes and how often you exfoliate. These notes are clues to your skin's response, rather than a diagnosis.
Washing whenever you notice shine or rubbing your face repeatedly can add irritation. Use lukewarm water and a gentle cleanser, apply it with your fingertips, and pat dry with a soft towel.
General advice is to cleanse up to twice daily and after heavy sweating. If your skin feels tight or irritated, review your current habits with a clinician. A squeaky-clean feeling is not a necessary sign of a good wash.
Oily skin may still need moisturiser. If a heavy texture feels uncomfortable, consider a lighter one. If you are prone to breakouts, a non-comedogenic label can help guide your choice.
A label does not guarantee that a product will suit everyone. Stop a new product if it causes stinging or redness. Avoid changing several products at once so that you can observe your response.

If oil bothers you during the day, you can gently press blotting paper onto the skin. Avoid scrubbing or repeatedly layering irritating oil-control products.
Keep gentle cleansing, moisturising and sun protection as the foundation while reviewing the steps that cause discomfort. More moisturiser or more oil-control products is not always the answer.
If tightness comes with ongoing or recurring redness, itching or flaking, seek a medical assessment. Product irritation and different skin conditions cannot reliably be distinguished by appearance alone.
Have swelling, weeping, pain or worsening symptoms assessed by a clinician. A product list and photographs of the changes may help during your consultation.
Before trying to remove more oil, note which areas feel tight and when.
Mason Clinic is near Exit 7 of Sinnonhyeon Station in Seoul. If discomfort continues, bring your usual cleansing routine and product list to your consultation. Discuss only the care that suits your needs, one step at a time.
Rather than stopping moisturiser because you see oil, first pay attention to what feels uncomfortable.
