After-Shaving Skin Care Guide
Small bumps where you shave can look like acne. Before squeezing them or pulling out a hair, consider when they appeared and what may have irritated the skin.
When your chin stings and feels bumpy after shaving, a closer shave or a quick squeeze can seem tempting. Yet similar-looking bumps can have different causes.
Shaving irritation, ingrown hairs and inflammation around hair follicles need to be considered separately. Mason Clinic, near Exit 7 of Sinnonhyeon Station in Seoul, shares what to check before a consultation.

Widespread burning just after shaving and bumps around hairs that appear over the following days call for different questions. Note whether the same areas are affected each time, and whether itching, pain or pus is present.
The timing and appearance provide useful clues, but neither the timeline nor a photograph can establish the cause on its own.
A cut hair can curve back towards the skin and trigger inflammation and bumps. These ingrown-hair bumps are not always a bacterial infection.
Folliculitis, acne and other conditions can look similar. A visible hair or white tip is not enough to identify the cause or choose a medicine yourself.
Squeezing or using a needle to dig for a hair can add irritation and injury. Avoid plucking a hair from inside a bump with tweezers as well.
Do not repeatedly shave over raised areas or scrub them. Give irritated, red skin a break from shaving that causes further irritation. If you cannot pause shaving, discuss a suitable approach during a medical consultation.
Once the skin has settled, wet the skin and hair thoroughly and use a shaving cream or gel that suits you. Use a light touch in the direction of hair growth; avoid stretching the skin taut or repeatedly passing over one spot.
Rinse the blade during use and clean, dry and store the razor afterwards. Replace a dull or damaged blade and do not share razors. No shaving method can prevent every breakout.

Cleanse gently without rubbing and, if the skin feels dry, use a well-tolerated, low-irritation moisturiser. There is no need to push through stinging from an aftershave or exfoliant.
Stop a new product if it causes discomfort and observe the change. Replacing several products at once can make it harder to identify the irritant.
Seek medical advice if bumps keep recurring or itching, pain or pus persists. Bring details of your shaving tools, products, when symptoms began and what happens when you pause shaving.
A sudden increase in redness or pain, or rapidly spreading symptoms with fever, chills or feeling unwell, needs immediate medical care. Do not dismiss this as routine shaving irritation or wait for a cosmetic appointment.
Rather than trying to remove after-shaving bumps with more pressure or squeezing, begin with when they appeared and the irritation around them.
At Mason Clinic, consultations consider both your current skin condition and everyday habits to discuss appropriate care and medical needs.
