Skin Structure

콜라겐

The protein fibre that makes up most of the dermis, responsible for the thickness and supporting strength of the skin.

What kind of substance it is

Collagen is a protein with a rope-like twisted structure and accounts for a considerable part of the dry weight of the dermis. With age or long-term sun exposure, production falls and existing fibres also degenerate.

Good to know

Many firmness procedures aim at the process by which collagen is newly formed, inducing a recovery response in the dermis with heat or micro-stimulation. This process generally proceeds gradually over weeks to months rather than immediately.
