Skin Structure

엘라스틴

The elastic fibre of the dermis responsible for the property of stretching and returning.

What kind of substance it is

If collagen provides the skin's support, elastin takes charge of its return. The amount is far smaller than collagen, but it plays a large role in the skin returning to its original state after being compressed.

Good to know

Elastin is produced in very small amounts after adulthood, so once damaged it recovers slowly. Ultraviolet light is known to be one of the main causes of elastin degeneration.
