A state in which the pore opening is blocked and sebum and dead cells have clumped together; the early lesion of acne.

What kind of condition it is

When the opening is open and the contents oxidise and look dark it is called an open comedo (blackhead), and when the opening is closed and it stands out white it is called a closed comedo (whitehead).

Good to know

At this stage there is no inflammation yet, so redness or pain is minimal, but if left alone it can progress to an inflammatory lesion.
